Oruro, 26 abril de 2022 (RBT). El Regimiento de Infantería 22 “Mejillones” conmemoró el XLIV aniversario de creación, en acto especial realizado hoy en el patio de honor de esta bizarra Unidad.
El acto se realizó con presencia del Cnl. DAEN Leo Cesar Villazón Vargas, Comandante de la Segunda División del Ejército; Cnl. DAEN. Fortino Anibal Baldiviezo Andrade, Director General de Radio Topáter; Cnl. DAEN. Iván Jaime Jordán Villarroel, Jefe de la sección IV Logística de la Segunda División, Miembros del Estado Mayor Divisionario; Comandantes de la PPUU.; Tcnl. DEM. Luis Carlos Montaño Zambrana, Comandante del Regimiento Mejillones; Autoridades municipales e invitados especiales.
“Al conmemorarse el XLIV aniversario de creación de este prestigioso Regimiento de Infantería 22 ‘Mejillones’ cuya creación en la organización del Ejército boliviano se debe a la imperiosa necesidad de dar seguridad en nuestra amplia línea de frontera”, señaló el Comandante de la Segunda División.
La Unidad cumple el rol de sentar soberanía y presencia Militar, con especialidad en arma de Infantería, que domina las zonas altiplánicas donde su trabajo se desarrolla bajo el lema “Centinelas del Pacífico”.
La historia señala que “en 1947, la provincia Carangas del departamento de Oruro donde los ayllus y autoridades originarias solicitaron al Comando General del Ejército, el asentamiento de una Unidad Militar que garantice la seguridad y soberanía nacional”, afirmó el Comandante del Regimiento.
Esta petición fue posible el 26 de abril de 1978. “El Regimiento lleva el nombre de Mejillones, en homenaje a nuestro puerto cautivo que fue arrebatado en la guerra del pacífico el año de 1879”, complementó.
Esta bizarra Unidad se caracteriza por ser los Guardianes de la Soberanía de nuestro Estado, donde los Soldados reciben una formación cívica, moral e intelectual con marco de virtud militar. Además, realizan el apoyo de lucha contra el contrabando y defensa del territorio nacional.

El acto culminó con presencia de 5 paracaidistas que demostraron sus destrezas en la modalidad libre, en el sector denominado Jalsuri, que ha generado un aspecto singular y emoción en los invitados.
El Regimiento de Infantería 22 “Mejillones” fue creado el 26 de abril de 1978 con la nominación de Batallón, mediante Orden General del Ejército No. 010/78 en instalaciones de Destacamento Andino No. 2, dependiente de la Segunda División del Ejército.
